In anticipation of President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to Ireland and his Doonbeg resort in early September, The Turbine Investigative Team took a trip north to gauge the reaction of local residents to what will be the President’s first visit here since the beginning of his second term. Most residents were unsurprisingly wary of speaking to more journalists after spending much of the last decade under inquiry, but we were lucky enough to arrange to speak to a new resident of the area who was happy to share his views.
Going by the name Luc Morningstar, the town’s newest Publican had recently opened his Bar and Restaurant – The Tarturus. Despite the warm early autumn day, the fires inside were roaring, and there was a faint smell of Sulfur in the air. We spoke at length with Luc about the process of opening his business and even his brief stint as a professional poker player, with games in venues as famous as Loftus Hall. When it came to the topic of the upcoming presidential visit, Luc expressed to us a deep excitement; in his own words, the visit and expected guests “brought about an energy that I haven’t felt since I left home.” Luc remained vague about his country of origin but did refer to the fact that “most people in the journalistic profession end up there eventually.” From those clues and his general attitude, The Turbine’s greatest minds concluded that he is a native of London.
During our conversation, Luc spared no breath in heaping praise upon Donald Trump and his administration. He was especially glowing about the actions of several members, most notably Vice President JD Vance and Secretary for War/Defence Pete Hegseth. “The actions of those great men are slowly creating a world that will be ready to welcome my future son with open arms” was a particularly striking comment of support.
With past attempts made on President Trump’s life and protests predicted over the course of his visit, security in the village is expected to be tightened. Luc seemed unconcerned with the potential impact that such measures could have on his fledgling enterprise: “In all my years of business, humanity has never failed to provide me with souls to keep the party alive.”
Luc provided us with a unique insight into the character of those looking forward to the visit of President Trump to Ireland; time will tell if he is alone in his thoughts or one of many.
