‘Natura Centrum Est’ parade held at UCD, supported by the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics. A performative walk held at UCD showcased the importance of environmental preservation. The walk was led by multidisciplinary artist Marcel·lí Antúnez Roca and included UCD professors and students carrying art posters of prominent figures in environmentalism.
Based in Catalonia, Spain, artist Antúnez was invited to UCD by the School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics. He explained that the primary goal of the demonstration is to place “nature in the centre”.
Professor of anthropology and her colleague, Dr Ana Vera, an Assistant Professor and Lecturer in Portuguese Studies, helped organise the demonstration.
“I’ve been following his work for a long time, and in the last 10 years, he’s been doing more collaborative work that has been turning his gaze to nature,” said the professors. “We felt it was a very good way to engage people in a more celebratory manner, with art as a form of expression. And that we could think about this moment of crisis that we’re living in.”
Funding for the walk was provided in part by the College of Arts and Humanities alongside the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI). Operating in approximately 40 countries, RWI is an independent academic and research institution committed to advancing human rights and humanitarian law.
