Two courses offered in UCD have been ranked in the top 50 in the QS World University Rankings by subject 2015, naming the top global universities in 36 different disciplines.

The veterinary science course in UCD was ranked 40th on the list, while the Development Studies course came in at number 45.

The rankings also placed UCD first in Ireland in 12 different subjects. These include Law, Engineering – Chemical, Engineering – Civil & Structural, Agriculture & Forestry, Earth & Marine Sciences, Materials Science, Statistics & Operational Research and (jointly) Mathematics.

UCD also had four new subject categories which made it into the QS rankings, along with the two highest ranked subjects, Architecture/Built Environment and Business & Management studies also made it into the rankings.

Speaking to UCD about the rankings, President Professor Andrew Deeks said: “The strong UCD performance demonstrates the comprehensive balance of our disciplines and the value of our interdisciplinary approach to research. We will continue to build our reputation on this foundation of excellent and important research.”

Trinity College has the highest total of ranked subjects from Irish Universities, with a total of 14 courses ranked in the Top 100, with 5 of these making it into the Top 50. These include, English Language and Literature (32nd), Politics and International Studies, (joint 33rd), History, (39th), Biological Sciences (48th) and Modern Languages (joint 49th).
