The College Tribune is excited to announce that two new Editors have been chosen to manage the 40th Volume of Ireland’s largest independent student newspaper.
Aisling Murphy (pictured left) and Sophie Gliott (pictured right) were selected by an adjudication panel of former editors of The College Tribune and have taken over the running of the newspaper.
Aisling Murphy:
Aisling has spent the last year as Turbine Editor. She is completing the final year of her degree in Law with History.
Aisling got involved with the Tribune in Volume 38, taking over the satire section and was recently awarded “Satirical Writer of the Year” at the National Student Media Awards. She has also regularly contributed to other sections of the paper, including serving as Law Correspondent in 2026.
In reaction to her appointment, she said, “I’m absolutely delighted to be appointed Co-Editor. The Tribune has formed such a key part of my college experience and the opportunity to help run and shape the paper is an absolute privilege.”
She added: “I’m excited to work alongside Sophie next year. We share a very similar vision for the future of the Trib, and I am confident that we will work well together to continue the work of Ellen, Hannah and all previous teams to produce the paper that so many love and hold dearly.”
Sophie Gliott:
Sophie has spent the last year as editor of the Arts & Lifestyle section. She is completing the final year of her degree in English, Film and Drama.
Sophie joined the Tribune in Volume 38 as a contributor to the Arts & Lifestyle section. She recently completed an internship with Hot Press magazine, where she was nominated for the “Journalist of the Year: National Media” award at the National Student Media Awards.
In her reaction to being appointed, she said, “I’m honoured to be given the role of Co-Editor this year. While it is a daunting challenge to follow in the footsteps of some incredible past editors/ journalism legends of the Tribune, I’m so excited and motivated to make the most out of this year and continue to push for independent journalism in student media!”
“I’m so grateful to be working alongside Aisling, whose commitment to this paper is as unwavering as my own. I’m very eager to see the College Tribune community continue to grow and strengthen this year after almost 40 years of the paper’s existence.”
The Outgoing Editorial Team:
Outgoing Co-Editor of Vol. 38 and 39 Hannah Kate Costello said she was so thrilled to have contributed to the high standards and legacy that is The College Tribune.
“My two years at the CT has been nothing short of amazing. While the stress levels were high at a lot of points, there was a lot of laughter and fun too. I might’ve been insane doing it alongside my degree but I don’t regret it one bit!” she said.
“Both teams that I’ve led have been nothing but amazing and hard working, the CT wouldn’t exist without them.”
She said she believes that Aisling and Sophie will bring a lot more creativity to the CT and a bit of sparkle.
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Aisling for two years and Sophie for one, I can’t imagine two better women to take over from myself and Ellen.”
Outgoing Co-Editor Ellen Clusker said she was beyond honoured to contribute to the phenomenal legacy of The College Tribune.
“My time at the Trib was filled with growth, learning and fun and it was fundamental to my entire UCD experience,” she said.
She wants to thank the entire team of section editors and contributors behind Volume 39 who rigorously upheld the high standards of the newspaper and protected its exceptional reputation.
“To help lead one of Ireland’s oldest independent student newspapers is something I’ll always cherish. Sophie and Aisling both bring incredible talent and experience to the role and I am so excited to see all the amazing work they do on Volume 40. I am more than confident that they will not only continue, but advance the amazing student journalism synonymous with the Trib,” she said.
