The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) has expressed disappointment at the lack of detail on how key aspects affecting students in the Programme for Government set out by Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Green Party will be achieved, especially surrounding the fact that there are no plans to reduce Irish college and university fees, which they say are currently the highest in the European Union.
The UCD Clubhouse is “unlikely” to reopen on the 29th of June according to the establishment’s Manager. All pubs will be allowed to reopen from the 20th of July, although some pubs will be reopening from the end of June.
Leinster rugby will begin training at their High-Performance Centre (HPC) on University College Dublin’s (UCD’s) Bellfield campus on Monday, after players had undergone testing earlier this week. As part of the return to play protocols set out by the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU), the HPC at UCD has been outfitted with the required infrastructure to facilitate a safe return to training, for restricted training sessions.
Leinster and Munster will begin training again at their respective HPCs on Monday 22 June, with Connacht and Ulster returning to training a week later on Monday 29 June. The National Men’s and Women’s Sevens squads are due back in training from Monday 6 July.
The Technological Higher Education Association released a statement on June 16, urging students to begin and continue studies for the
UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School’s Masters in Finance ranked 41st across the world and 35th in Europe in the Masters in Finance Pre-Experience 2020 category. This was part of the Financial Times’ annual ranking reports published on the 14th of June 2020.
A study aimed at determining how many people have contracted Covid-19 in Ireland will be conducted by Dr. Cillian De Gascun, director of the National Virus Reference Laboratory in UCD. 5000 people will be asked to participate from Sligo and Dublin, the areas with the lowest and highest levels of Covid-19 transmission respectively.
The Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) has awarded the necessary funding to create a new National Preclinical Imaging Centre. UCD is supporting the project, as well as RCSI and NUI Galway, and will receive slightly more than €2 million of the full €3.4 million funding.
