They have become an element of consensus management in Ireland, and net producers of civic apathy over engagement.

The solution is pretty simple. Abandon them completely. Stop paying, set up a new union/movement and just move on. It’s less about politics than it is about purpose. If an organisation has no purpose, or dodges it responsibilities, then it is not worth having anymore.
