How the hell can an SU "enforce" anything on students or staff of a university? So maybe I'll set up a Me Society and have a vote to enforce all staff and students to wear bunny costumes. Equally valid.
Bystander Intervention a.k.a. vigilante training... if it's not done nationally then you've no business mandating it in universities. A university is a place were people received a higher education. Nothing more. They are not petri dishes for bizarre imported social justice ideologies.

Did the experts agree to speak to you on the condition of anonymity, or are we allowed to know who they are, their credentials etc.? Can the accusation that colleagues had to 'guess' nationality and gender be proven beyond reasonable doubt or is this hearsay? Is there formal documentation outlining the guessing process?

My sympathy to all who befriended Michael Byrne, Old Man Belfield. It is great to hear that a homeless man who opted for independence rather than hostels had access to friendship, care and security on your campus while still having the space to maintain his reclusive life and privacy. There are homeless people who choose to live this way and shun offers of accommodation. The campus is an ideal location for such a homeless , reclusive person to live quietly. You might consider adopting another homeless person, I'm sure Simon could partner you with one. It would be great if every university would adopt an "Old Man / Lady Belfield" and extend the informal supports as you did for Michael. I'm sure you made his life a lot happier one.
Regards,
John Slattery

As a student that lives far away from the University, the fact that the school felt the ranking and degree is much more important than the studies, challenges and well-being of the students itself is completely ridiculous. Some of the assignments are being returned the past two weeks with major disappointment from their grade and feedbacks from module coordinators and tutors. The most important information that hasn't been highlighted or come to mind from the University is that; yes, you library is available; yes, some people with less advantage are able to request for laptop loans but what about does who live far from campus and can't access the library for sources and library website isn't much help either as some lecturers noted reading materials for lectures but the books aren't available online and are only available in the library as physical books. The bad signal for wifi service living in the country, which affects us from accessing lecture classes online. Another would be the stress and the mental health of a student staying at home during this pandemic. A lot must be considered to assist a student during their studies. For myself, as a mature student and a mother of two, I've felt major difficulty since the freedom of travelling to university has been restricted and stress has been building up each day and the university is not considering this and only care about their status.

A similar case of a guy coloqually called " mat the jap" in Trinity College. He hung aroung college for decadrs and ste food at student gatherings but didnt drink alcohol. He has a postgrad from Trinity but was banned from the library apparently accused af defacing books which I dont believe. Probably more one of his his occassional outbursts. He was dumb by which i mean didnt speak but i witnessed him in the pub with a pad write responses in english german and spanish to students speaking to him. Staff looked after him and he had a health board flat. A Republic should embrase diverse people and it is sad to witness essentric aged people ostracised and not tolerated.
